I have been meaning to do this for quite some time, I wanted to set up a separate page that will show my physiotherapy progress. Things that are highlighted will be things that I’d never done before, although progress is slow there is still improvements to be shown and it provides a timetable and gives me motivation. This is not only beneficial for me, but it allows you the viewer to see that there is progress and to show that virtually none of this would be possible without the support from you and to show how important fundraising is.
My ultimate goal is to attend project walk in Carlsbad California-unfortunately this goal is very expensive. It is roughly around $15,000 a month to attend this facility. This includes all living costs, transportation, physiotherapy etc. upon my departure from project walk-in June of 2006, they developed a home programs that I can follow to regain mobility and independence. Ever since my return I have been fighting hard to find individuals that will work with me that have an open mind and are willing to listen to what I have to say. I went through numerous personal trainers and physiotherapist, up until a month and a half ago I believe that I have found a handful of individuals to work with me. From the funding from the fundraisers, it not only has allowed me to develop this program but it also has allowed me to purchase some of the equipment that is needed in order to have a successful recovery process-based on project walk expectations.
In order to develop a successful program-I have found that consistency and having the ability to engage in physical activity are the two most important thing. Here is a breakdown of my weekly routine
Anderson’s sports medicine therapy -usually attend once a week sometimes twice a week Tuesday or Thursday for 1hr. the main focus is within the upper extremities, providing range of motion throughout the body,
Rod Flahr personal trainer -three times a week -Monday Wednesday Friday- for 1 hr the main focus is to work on abdominals and hip strength, regain muscle patterns in the lower extremities, increased cardiovascular
Brian Ganong -four times a week-Monday Tuesday Thursday Friday-sessions usually very from two hours to three. Providing range of motion, working with the total gym and standing frame, concentration on strength development of the upper body, abdominal strength.
Tyler Mcdonald-once a week Thursday nights-one hour and a half session. Concentrate on shoulders, chest and tricept strength.’
Nick / Faye Lesanko -I do various activities that allows me to become more active. They provide assistance in the physical activity on a weekly basis
Wheelchair rugby-once a week sessions usually last two to three hours on Sunday.
Without these individuals that I have listed above, and also the facility and the equipment used, my recovery would be hindered. Engaging in physical activity was always a huge part of my life before the accident to increase my health as you can see still does remain a major focus
Milestones and achievements within the program
October 28 -abdominal strength balancing on a bosu ball (it is medicine ball that is split in half) sustainable time balancing 13 seconds.
December 12 -sustainable time balancing without assistance 3 minutes and 56 seconds.
January 15-sustainable time balancing without assistance 6 minutes and 36 seconds.
Swimming progress -soon to come
